Practical tips for digestion, balance + a gentle New Year reset
The festive season is a time for celebration, connection and indulgence but it can also leave us feeling a little out of balance. To support the transition into the New Year, we sat down with Helen, one of our in-store naturopaths, to chat about how she personally resets after the festive period.
From gentle resets to digestive support, here's what she had to share.
After the festive season, what does a personal "reset" look like for you? Christmas often entails lots of rich food and festive treats so I like to reset my body with a 24 hour fast. It's not so much about restriction but about creating an intentional space for the body to rest, restore and rebalance. It helps me reconnect with my natural hunger cues and supports digestion.
What are your top three tips for supporting the body through a New Year reset?
1.Get the basics right, good sleep, plenty of water and a bit of sunlight. Sometimes I like to add in electrolytes to ensure proper hydration during the hot weather.
2.Ginger and Fennel tea are excellent for digestion and bloating, one cup a day taken regularly is enough for you to notice real benefits.
3.Reduce ultraprocessed foods, its easy when you're on the go or away from home to grab packaged convenience foods, but with a bit of forward planning you can find healthier options to have on hand, protein bars, fresh fruit, nuts, cheese and organic jerky are some of our favourites.
Are there any go-to products you recommend during this time of year? I love digestive enzymes for holidays or social occasions, they support more complete digestion of meals and relieve that uncomfortable gas and bloating feeling that we get when we overindulge. I particularly like Enzymedica digest gold as it has probiotics included for a one stop digestive product.
For Helen, supporting digestion and hydration, while keeping things simple and intentional, is the key to feeling balanced and energised heading into the New Year.
