Meet the team - Sophia, The Creative Heart Behind Our Art

What is your role at Down To Earth Organics?
I’m proud to be a barista and smiling face in the Down to Earth café space. I’m passionate about food, great coffee and friendly hospitality, so I feel right at home in this gorgeous new space!

Can you tell us about your side hustle?
I have always been arty and creative, so you’ll often find me drawing, painting, sewing, and making. I love illustrating and designing beautiful imagery for people. I couldn’t resist when I was asked to illustrate the huge windows and doors at Down to Earth to be bright and festive!

Can you tell us the inspo behind your design for the Christmas illustrations for the shop window? I’m a big fan of staying true to ‘summer’ motifs when illustrating for a Kiwi Christmas. So fresh fruit, lush leaves, and unexpected seasonal produce inspired the design for the wreath and garland. It’s all about bringing the warmth and vibrancy of a Kiwi Christmas to life.

How do you take your coffee?
I actually drink my coffee black! Long or short, no sugar or sweetener... and I’m just loving the Certified Organic Ozone roast we use in the café.

Favourite product at Down To Earth Organics and why?
I love all of the products at Down to Earth, but at the moment, I’m so drawn to the Loco Love range. The packaging, branding, the pastel colours, and of course, the chocolate. It’s hard to resist.

What's your go to slow weekend brunch dish?
On a slow morning, you can safely expect me to be serving my maple and smoked paprika roasted vine tomatoes on a toasted slice of Bumblebee sourdough bread with homemade ricotta and fresh herbs... absolutely delicious! This year, we’ve also bought some decadent honeycomb to have on the side with extra toast—such a treat.

How do you practice self-care?
Self-care to me is being slow and mindful, ignoring the hustle and bustle, and allowing myself to put my feet up, have a cuppa, and recharge with some time in the sun!

What does your perfect summery day off work look like?
When I’m not at work in the summertime, I love to be at the beach, in the garden, or on a walk/hike in our beautiful surroundings. We are so lucky to live in a region with so many choices when it comes to enjoying the great outdoors.
